Temple of Heaven (1 Tian Tan Dong Lu, Dongcheng, Beijing) – this temple (located in the southern part of Beijing), was first built in 1420 AD (18th year of Ming emperor Yongle’s reign) and was extended & renovated during the reigns of Ming emperor Jiajing and Qing emperor Qianlong. Here, the emperors would worship the God of Heaven, and pray for good harvest. Covering an area of 273 hectares, it is the largest such site to pay homage to heaven. Admission: RMB 10. Hours: 8:00 am – 5:30 pm (March-June), 8:00 am – 8:00 pm (July – October), 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (November-February).
